The Hill Country Archeological Association (HCAA) will have its general meeting on Saturday September 17, 2016 at the Riverside Nature Center, 150 Francisco Lemos, Kerrville. The meeting, open to the public, will begin at 12:30pm.
In the 1700’s, many Toyah camps dotted the Edwards Plateau with Perdiz points and European components the norm, except for one lone camp which contained neither. This camp on the San Saba River remains a mystery. Chuck Hixon, Professional Archeologist and member of the Llano Uplift Archeology Society (LUAS) will discuss the Wilson Site on the San Saba River. Hixson received his BA and MA degrees in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. Hixson’s thesis project dealt with southwestern pottery making technology, specifically with a study of the paint on Mogollon Black on White pottery. Hixson has developed this interest into an art. Using open firing pits and aboriginal techniques, he produces exquisitely thin walled, bone tempered vessels from clays he has collected from throughout the local area

San Saba Bird and Nature Club welcomes young birder Delaney Kempf to San Saba on Feb. 18, at 2pm to the San Saba Civic Center, 1190 S. Thomas Stewart Drive.
Come learn about the foundations of birdwatching and how you can be a birder without ever leaving your neighborhood. See how there is so much more to birding than strenuous hiking with heavy binoculars or traveling to far-flung regions. Sometimes the best birding you’ll ever experience is closer than you’d think.
Delaney Kempf is a nineteen-year old birder from San Antonio, Texas, and a member of the San Antonio Young Birders Club and the National Audubon Society. Delaney is on the Education Board of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center (near San Antonio) and specializes in all things relating to birds. In her free-time she enjoys photography and hiking throughout the Texas Hill Country. She did a Texas Photography Big Year in 2015. Since then she has birded in Arizona, Colorado, and New York with some of the brightest minds in ornithology.
Help welcome Delaney to our part of the Hill Country and share in her enthusiasm for birds and nature. You are invited to join but need not be a member to attend SSBNC programs. All with an interest are welcome. For more information about San Saba Bird and Nature Club visit the website, www.sansababirdandnatureclub.org or call 325-372-7615.
