Scott Summers is arranging a bird banding field trip to Fort Hood. We will meet at the junction of Elijah and Georgetown roads on west range of Fort Hood Wednesday June 27th at 7:30 a.m. From there we will caravan out to the site a few miles away. San Saba Bird and Nature Club members will be attending and invite you to join us.
The trip will feature Dr. David Cimprich. Dr. Cimprich is one of only two bird banding trainers in Texas. Banding certifications are awarded by the most skilled in the profession by the North American Banding Council. This banding is the culmination of his 7-member field crew’s season monitoring the black-capped vireo. The vireo was delisted May 16th officially. David and crew are hoping to catch both adults and young-of-year at this site. He and his right hand field biologist Nick Glover will explain the entire process; net set up, monitoring, capture/recapture, ageing, molt, handling, measuring, banding and release.
The trip will be done by 11:00 am if not sooner due to the expected heat. We’ll have lunch at a restaurant in Copperas Cove or on your own from there.
Please let me know if you plan to attend. 325-372-7615
