San Saba Bird and Nature Club welcomes Charles Floyd, professional birder and educatoron Tuesday, September 17 at 2pm. Charles will share tales of birding in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. He and his wife Nancy, have spent the last few years near Fort Davis, collecting data on hummingbirds. Many of us remember Charles from the four years SSBNC sponsored Bird Banding in the San Saba River Nature Park for area school children.
After spending 36 years as a public school science teacher and school administrator, Charles retired and turned his attention toward becoming a citizen scientist. He is a licensed Master Bird Bander. Nancy is also a licensed bird bander. Together they operate banding stations at the Hummer House, near Christoval, Texas. They are currently conducting research involving Black-chinned Hummingbirds, Painted Buntings and migrant songbirds. They operate the South Concho River Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivability (MAPS) station at that location.
You are invited to join us at the San Saba Civic Center, 1190 S. Thomas Stewart Drive, September 17, 2pm. All those with an interest are welcome to attend. For more information go to www.sansababirdandnatureclub.orgor call 325-372-7615.
